ROAD SAFETY
Driving safely – a matter of skill
Anyone can learn to drive
safely. Statistics show that 90 percent of all road accidents are
caused by driving mistakes, many of which could have been avoided.
In day-to-day and professional driving being aware of one’s own
skills, recognizing potential dangers and reacting at the right time
determine whether or not drivers are capable of handling critical
situations.
In the specific case of young people, road accidents are the most
frequent cause of death. Moreover, many young road users suffer
slight or heavy injuries as a result of road accidents. People who
are forced to use their cars for work often find themselves in
dangerous situations that require good reaction skills. On the other
hand, people who are very seldom on the road are insecure and even
less prepared in facing possible dangers.
Reaction speeds slow down as people grow older. Heavy traffic,
adverse weather conditions and bad visibility become stress factors
and additional sources of danger. |
